Mocha Desert Rats
Shown in the pictures are Mocha Desert Rats competing in the Inspection, Drill, Obstacle
Course, and Parade at the Great Lakes Association of Shrine Motor Corps Annual Competition
held each September.
In 1977 the Mocha Desert rats were formed. Five nobles approached the Divan suggesting that
a new motorized unit be formed in Mocha that used Honda Odyssey 250 c.c Dune Buggies.
The Divan approved and the Desert Rats were formed. Two of the founding members are still
active today, Bill Bossons and Glenn Chesney. We have grown over the years to twenty members, active in fifteen or more parades each year.
Each year the Mocha Deserts Rats are active in the Great Lakes Association of Shrine Motor Corps (GLASMC). At each fall meeting we participate in an Inspection, a Drill, and the Obstacle
Course competition as well as the Parade competition. These Competitions take place all around the Great Lakes Shrine Association region, from Milwaukee Wisconsin, to Springfield Illinois, Indianapolis Indiana, to Columbus Ohio, to Cleveland Ohio, throughout Michigan and to London Ontario in 2007.
You can join the Mocha Desert Rats, if you or we can find a Honda Odyssey Dune Buggy, which was only made between 1977 and 1983. We do find another one occasionally and they often need a fair bit of tender loving care to restore them and get one parade ready.
If you are interested in joining the Mocha Desert Rats contact any member, President Geoff Clays at 519-461-1065, or Secretary - Treasurer Boris Melnyk at 519-471-7895.
